And, According to the 2008 Report of the Greater Washington Initiative, the greater Washington, DC area employs the second most technology workers in the country. The report shows that the economic resilience of the DC metropolitan area is largely due to technology services in the Federal US Government sector and that 71% of federal services are in information technology.
Kogod IT Department facts: Kogod's IT Department is one of the most actively engaged departments at American University with industry, practice and scholarly research. Our Information Technology Executive Council (ITEC) is composed of influential information management leaders and CIO's, who meet with our faculty to provide guidance on things like: curriculum development to meet employment market demands; course content; guest speakers; placement; and networking. Similarly, our Center for Information Technology and the Global Economy (CITGE) members are accomplished IT professionals who work with our faculty to develop research agendas relevant to the needs of practitioners. And our faculty is also world class. Did you know that Prof. Bill DeLone has the most cited scholarly article in the entire IT field? Did you know that Prof. Erran Carmel is one of the World's leading experts on global outsourcing and offshoring, and that his book is used in outsourcing courses at most top schools?
About this list: Because of the facts above, our IT Department is uniquely positioned to host special events that may be of interest to you. This special interest group is simply mail list subscription. You have everything to win and nothing to lose by signing up on this list. After you signed up, we will add you to a self-enrollment Blackboard forum so that you can receive our announcements about sepecial events, talks, networking and placement activities, etc. You don't have to be in the IST concentration to be subscribed to this list. In fact, once/if you declare an IST concentration we will move your name to another special Blackboard forum for that group. If at any point you wish to be removed from this list just let us know.
